Buhari was never prepared to lead Nigeria, lacks plan – Afenifere leader, Adebanjo

Elder statesman and a leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has rated the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari below average.

Adebanjo said that from every indication, President Buhari was never prepared for the office of the presidency before he came into power.

Speaking with National Mirror, the elder statesman noted with great disappointment that the All Progressives Congress-led government has not been able to live up to expectation of Nigerians after one year in office, adding that Buhari did not do his home work very well before taking over the mantle of leadership in May last year.

“Buhari to me in the last one year has not been impressive,” he averred.

Adebanjo, who admitted that, though, President Buhari has done well in his fight against corruption, however, expressed reservations for his clear disdain for the rule of law.

“Buhari he has done very well in anti-corruption crusade. But the only reservation I have about that is that he is doing it with disregard for the rule of law which I don’’t like, for instance, the ruling on Dasuki and some others. He can still get what he wants without disregard for the law. That is the minus I give him there,” he added.

Speaking further, Adebanjo pointed at some vital areas that the president should have improved on since he assumed power in May 2015.

“Even if he has not achieved anything in one year, of course I don’’t expect him to achieve much in one year, but where is the programme? In health, education, works, nothing has since been done; no roadmap for the change that can be used to measure you.

He said the state of the nation shows that the President failed to do his homework before coming into power.

“These are the things that are dragging back the quality of the universities now. What I am expecting is that Buhari should have done his home work properly before coming to power,” he asserted.

Biafra: MASSOB hires 500 pastors, prayer warriors

Chief Ralph Uwazuruike-led Biafra Independence Movement has raised over 500 pastors and prayer warriors across the region to pray for the immediate freedom of the independent state of Biafra.

Making this disclosure on Friday, after a meeting at Grace Accord Mission, Ndiakwu Otolo, Nnewi, Anambra State, MASSOB State Coordinator of Religion in Anambra, Pastor Ani Nwede James said the group had decided to renew what he described as its covenant with God.

According to him, the group which is identified as Biafran Clergy Men would be backing up its prayers with occasional fasting “to draw down the hand of God and rescue their people from the zoo called Nigeria.”

Pastor James explained that the move to go spiritual to actualise Biafra started sixteen years ago but had only come to fulfilment this year.

During the Nnewi meeting, he disclosed that there were prayer sessions that lasted hours “during which period we covered ourselves with the blood of Jesus to prepare us for the task ahead.”

On the recent statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari that Biafra would never be achieved, Pastor James said the clergymen had already petitioned God over that, saying that anybody who in any imagination thought that Biafra would not be actualised was having a day dream “because it is a task that must be done.”

The pastors also told the Fulani herdsmen to leave “Biafran land” for good as God’s anger would descend on them for spilling innocent blood of His people.

Saboteurs behind Edo APC crisis, Oshiomhole tells Oyinlola panel

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday, described the lingering crisis in the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress as the handiwork of enemies of the state and the party.

He also said the crisis was being blown out of proportion.

Oshiomhole said this at the Government House in Benin, when he received the members of the fact-finding committee set up by the national secretariat of the APC to assess the internal wrangling rocking the party in Edo State ahead of the state’s governorship election on September 10.

The national leadership of the party had, on May 10, inaugurated the five-member reconciliation committee, led by a former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, to look into the immediate and remote challenges affecting its Edo State chapter.

Other members include Senator Osita Izunazo, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, Hajiya Fatimah Mohammed and Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi.

The Edo State chapter of the party has, for several months, been battling with internal crisis ranging from the reported fallout between Oshiomhole and his deputy, Dr. Pius Odubu, over his (Odubu) decision to contest the governorship election.

The recent impeachment of the former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Edoror, by 17 lawmakers, has also been linked to the crisis in the party in the state.

But Oshiomhole noted that the state had been put in a bad light by individuals who claimed to be members of the APC but remained committed to the opposition party.

He added, “The more dangerous enemies are those whom people purport to have joined the APC but their soul is in the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party). By the choice of their language and style and tactics, it is clear that they wish to be in the APC while working in futility hoping that they can discredit the APC so that their own party that they have grounded, dismantled and rest can hopefully be revived.

“So maybe in seeking to settle us, you will also need to settle Abuja. Otherwise, we might just be shedding a crocodile tears. The headlines that you refer to are credited to people who purport to be in this party. When you see their language in the print and electronic media, you wonder if this is a Hiroshima war.

“They are now the ones, having benefited from my labour and accomplishment, using the most uncouth and violent language to describe my person. The official attitude seems to be, ‘reconcile everybody.’ That is fine.”
