The suspect, a civil servant, identified as Joy, was said to have beaten up the house help when she could not produce the balance of N50 from the money she was given to purchase some items in the market.
City News gathered that the suspect had asked her younger sister who resides in Owerri for a house help to assist her in taking
care of her year-old twins.
The sister was able to get her the house help who has lived with her for almost a year now.
A neighbour told our reporter that the suspect started maltreating the young girl immediately she came to live with her, alleging that she usually beat her with an iron rod anytime she did something wrong.
“Apart from the allegation that the girl did not return the balance of N50, the woman also accused the girl of not informing her of her menstruation period,” she added.
She further said the parents of the victim who were ignorant of what their daughter was passing through in the hands of the suspect could not be contacted as both the victim and the indigent parents had no access to mobile phone.
“Even when the sister that brought the girl inquired from the woman how the girl was doing, her simple response would be, ‘I am just managing her,’” the neighbour added.
City News, however, learnt that she was eventually arrested by the police following a report by one of the neighbours.
When contacted, the Area Commander, Kubwa Area Command Heaquarters, ASP Arungwa Nwuzue, confirmed the arrest of the suspect saying investigation has commenced.
“The victim had since been reunited with her family through the information made available by the sister to the suspect,” he added.
