Subsidy removal: Tinubu under fire, asked to apologise to GEj

Tinubu under fire over subsidy removal

A former Lagos state governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has come under fire from a section of Nigerians for supporting the decision of the president Buhari-led federal government to remove petrol subsidy.

Bola Tinubu has said President Muhammadu Buhari did what was right by taking a bold step to remove the subsidy regime

Tinubu, in a statement issued by his media office on Thursday, May 12, said though the decision was a difficult one, it would ultimately become beneficial to the generality of the people instead of enriching the pockets of a few Nigerians, who enjoyed the fraud of the subsidy regime.

He pleased pleaded with Nigerians to bear with the current administration for implementing the new pump price regime adding that allowing the situation to remain the same would have translated to a breach of the agreement which the ruling party had with Nigerians in the electioneering period and expressed confidence that the current government took a decision that serves the people best.

However, Tinubu’s entreaties has attracted the ire of some Nigerians who labelled the APC chieftain a hypocrites for opposing the fuel price hike during the Jonathan administration and changing his stand on the issue under the Buhari administration. Some Nigerian even went as far as demanding an apology from Tinubu for opposing the decision of Goodluck Jonathan to remove the fuel subsidy back then.

What is your take on this, is Tinubu deserving of these criticisms?
